How To Make Curry Goat by Louise McStravick

"In these delicately observed poems, Louise McStravick explores the landscape of her heritage and identity; painting an incisive and affectionate portrait of the people she has encountered along the way. These poems are vivid, sensual and rich in imagery and they pull no punches. Whilst each poem is a delicious treat in its own right, collectively they constitute a brave and important story, beautifully and boldly told. This is a recipe book for the soul and the senses and the poems will linger with you long after the book has been returned to the shelf." -Mary Dickins, Author of Happiness FM, Burning Eye Books

Take around 7 quid’s worth of goat
Or mutton dem di same ting
A spring of thyme, two large onions, three if you’re that way inclined
Not di Spanish h’onion di British h’onion.
A bulb of garlic. All-purpose seasoning and Caribbean Curry Powder
It nah matter which curry powder you fi use.
Using eyes to measure, one-part All Purpose to two-part curry powder
Be careful with the All Purpose.  You nah want too much salt.
Sprinkle it over the meat in a zig-zag motion get your hands in until you
have an even coating. Be sure to have washed the meat first.
British people nah wash dem meat, it nasty, that’s how dem get mad cow disease.

"Louise McStravick invites us into her world as a daughter of the Windrush generation, with a sharp observation and a dry sense of humour. We meet family, friends and errant lovers in poems of wit and sensuality, and in McStravick’s vivid imagery and often surprising language we learn to smell, taste and enjoy this Goat Stew as she explores the feelings of belonging and alienation that beset her. A wonderful first collection." - Janice Dempsey from Dempsey & Windle Publishing

The Goddess of Macau by Graeme Hall

This short story collection paints complex characters, Macau myths and magic, all set in the former Portuguese colony of Macau. Macau was the first European settlement in Asia (founded in 1557) and over some 450 years a unique Macanese culture developed, one that fused Europe and China to create an individual identity which. sadly, is in decline in the twenty-first century. Graeme Hall is a
talented storyteller and his work has been published in English, Portuguese and Chinese.

Author Biography

In 2014 Graeme Hall abandoned the world of intellectual property law to become a novelist and short story writer. He has won the short story competitions of the Macau Literary Festival and the
Ilkley Literature Festival, and his writing has been published in anthologies by Black Pear Press and the Macau Literary Festival.
Graeme lived in Hong Kong from 1993 to 2010 and still keeps a close connection to the city. His first novel was set in Hong Kong and Shanghai over the period 1996/97 and most of his writing comes from his love of that part of the world. Graeme first visited Macau in 1993 and he quickly became fascinated by the oldest European settlement in Asia. That visit was just the first of many trips to explore Macau’s unique mixture of Europe and China, and also to enjoy the chorizo and
vinho verde. His current work in progress is a novel set in Macau in the years immediately following the Second World War.
He is an active member of the Leeds Writers Circle whose members have been a constant source of advice, support and encouragement. Graeme lives in Calderdale, West Yorkshire with his wife and a wooden dog.
